It’s frivolous, scandalous, and perhaps odious to some. You may love it, or you may hate it—but you simply cannot ignore it. Director and producer Karan Johar’s illustrious celebrity talk show, Koffee With Karan, has rolled out another season, replete with glitz, glamour, and ample fraternity gossip that we, as outsiders, would otherwise be oblivious to.
To commence the novel season, Papa KJo invited his goddaughter, newlywed Alia Bhatt, alongside her Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani costar Ranveer Singh, onto the coveted couch. While some claim that the first episode was a tad bit underwhelming—perhaps, no mention of her pregnancy?—the 29-year-old mum-to-be did drop a couple revelation bombs about her relationship with husband Ranbir Kapoor.
We. Discuss. Below.
The in-love couple was in a live-in relationship
…and, we’re all for it. The Gangubai Kathiawadi star revealed, in passing, that the two had been living together for a while. In fact, Ranbir had requested Alia to host the annual Diwali puja at their home back in November last year.
Opposites attract?
The faux father-daughter duo revealed that Ranbir, indeed, is a traditionalist at heart. During their nuptials, the 39-year-old keenly listened to the priests’ sermon, while Alia seemed to be preoccupied with the impending golden hour for her wedding photoshoot. She also confessed that it took a bit of adjusting to the Kapoor khandan since she hails from a close-knit family of four.
Alia Bhatt—and her entourage of friends and family—manifested her love
The girl manifested her man, and the universe made it happen. When the two A-listers found themselves single, it seems as though the rest of the world willed them to come together. “My friends were like, listen, y’all are totally going to get together. And I was like, okay, half-wishing it, not full-wishing it…it should happen naturally,” the actor revealed.
Love in the ‘air’
It all began mid-air as the celebrities jetted off to Tel Aviv, Israel, for a Brahmāstra workshop. The duo, who were booked on adjacent seats, were separated by a temporary malfunction on Ranbir’s seat. Reportedly, Alia wasn’t the only one cursing the technical glitch—Ranbir, too, wished to be seated next to his future wifey for the duration of the flight. “That vibe started over there only, and of course, the rest is history,” she confessed.
RK is an ace planner—and proposer.
After ceasing marriage discussions, in the wake of the pandemic that ruined their plans, Alia and Ranbir travelled to Masai Mara, Kenya, to ring in the new year—a place the two hold dear to their hearts. Before you know it, the star was down on his knees, proposing to the love of his life, with their safari guide sneaking in a picture or two!
Are you even in love if you haven’t shared a toothbrush?
During the ‘Koffee Bingo’ game round, both Ranveer and Alia spurted out the realities behind their long-standing liaisons. On more than one occasion, the two have—call it by accident—used their respective partners’ toothbrushes. As icky as it may sound, they do say, jhootha khaane se pyaar badhta hai.
A diamond is a girl’s best friend—especially if engraved.
The bespoke Van Cleef and Arpels engagement ring, with a band featuring eight encrusted diamonds—a nod to R’s lucky number 8—and a large hexagonal diamond placed atop, is also engraved with their “relationship philosophy” that the couple holds very close to their hearts; Mrs Hipster, with each alphabet standing for a specific word. *shh*
How to keep it cool with your bae’s ex 101
Alia claims that she has maintained extremely cordial relations with her hubby’s exes. “I think I know how to stay friends with my partner’s ex. I am very good friends with his exes. I love them both (possibly referring to Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone). We deserve a masterclass, perhaps?
