Celebrities often get spotted drinking coconut water. From Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra to Kareena Kapoor Khan, her family, Jacqueline Fernandez and Sonam Kapoor, everyone seems to be hooked on to the tropical staple. Harleen Gulati, nutritionist and health coach, says, “Tropical fruits are known to be healthy and delicious, out of which tender coconuts top the list. It is the go-to drink for any one trying to stay fit.” It has numerous benefits and we list a few below.
If you're trying to lose weight coconut water is just what you need as it’s easy on the stomach and low in calories. “This refreshing and light beverage comprises bioactive enzymes that enhance fat metabolism and aids digestion,” says Harleen.
Also coconut water is high in potassium which helps in balancing out the level of sodium we consume. Too much sodium in the body results in water retention and in turn increases water weight. Harleen further explains that coconut water aids in purging extra water and toxins from the body.
Coconut water is regraded as a natural sports drink. It contains natural enzymes, organic electrolytes and potassium that give you an instant energy boost. Also compared to other energy drinks, this is a smarter choice as a cup of coconut water contains only 46 calories and several essential nutrients.
This keeps your body hydrated and healthy. “It makes you feel fuller for long and you won’t feel hungry for at least 30 minutes after you drink it," says Harleen. The fact that it has a refreshing, sweet and nutty flavour, makes it quite a preferred drink.
If your blood pressure has been fluctuating and getting you worried. Start off you day by drinking the water of a tender coconut. "Coconut water maintains right amount of electrolytes in the body, which helps in regulating the blood pressure and acts as a balancing mechanism for fluid in the body," says Harleen.
Harleen explains that the presence of vitamin C, magnesium and potassium in coconut water help it elevate healthy cholesterol levels.
Coconut water is an anti-aging fruit. "It contains lauric acid and cytokines which are necessary for cell regulation and growth, which keep the hair and skin healthy and glowing," adds Harleen.
The magnesium found in coconut water helps prevent migraines. "Drinking organic sources of magnesium can be somewhat complicated but coconut water allows you to get a healthy dose of magnesium in a simple and delicious way," says Harleen.
Having a bad hangover? Coconut water replenishes the electrolytes in the body and boosts hydration and hold you back from throwing up. "The antioxidants in coconut water combat oxidative stress caused by too much alcohol," adds Harleen.
