If you’re anything like me, you’ve grown up watching classic romantic movies and dreamt of the day you would have one of those iconic kisses (I’m still waiting, by the way). I’ve been taken in by the magic of the ‘running towards each other’ kind of kiss, the ‘dancing in the rain and have to kiss’ kind of kiss, and the slow, romantic kiss at the movie’s end. Each scene in a romantic film—from The Notebook to Titanic—is brimming with a different kind of chemistry with the perfect setting and music. Ugh, why can’t life be like the movies? Nonetheless, here’s a list of iconic movie kisses you can watch (and re-watch) until you have the kiss of your dreams. Read on.
The Notebook
Honestly, it’s hard to pick just one. Whether it’s a young Allie running towards Noah, who has been working in the mines all day, and jumping up to kiss him or when they kiss after waiting for a long, long time, it’s totally iconic.
The Princess Diaries
Who remembers when Mia said, “You know, in the old movies, whenever a girl would get seriously kissed, her foot would just kind of… pop?” Well, in the end, she got her kiss, with her dream boy and a pop! It really couldn’t get more adorable than this.
Jab We Met
This iconic couple, shared a passionate kiss at the end of the film, when Geet (played by Kareena Kapoor) realises that she is actually in love with Aditya (played by shahid Kapoor). I know I wasn't the only one beaming during that kiss!
Notting Hill
This OG rom-com starring the stunning Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant was truly fool-proof in its story and characters. And my favourite moment of the film has got to be when Anna walks up to William and tells him, “I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” The tears were real.
Titanic
A round-up of iconic movie kisses would be incomplete without Titanic. The scene that takes places on the front deck of the ship, while the sun sets has my heart even today….and is likely to be there forevermore. It was the most surreal, fairy-tale-like, magical kiss one could dream of.
Aashiqui 2
Who doesn't remember the much-talked-about kiss between Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor? Kissing under the umbrella, while it's pouring at night definitely sounds romantic AF! I can almost hear Tum hi ho playing...
Lady and the Tramp
This 1955 Disney animation movie continues to be a favourite for its absolutely (paw)dorable nuzzling scene. When Lady, a female dog and the tramp—a drifter—come together over a shared piece of spaghetti, the scene ends with a kiss of a promise of forever.
Crazy, Stupid, Love
The scene that stood out in this rather convoluted love story was definitely the passionate kiss between the characters played by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. He replicates the big move from Dirty Dancing, and she’s…well, hooked. It was steamy, hot, and definitely looked like a lot of fun.
Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela
Another memorable kiss, was when the now-married, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh shared during their first film together, Goliyon ki Ras-Leela Ram-Leela. They definitely turned up the heat with that one.
Dirty Dancing
When a two-left-feet Baby meets the ever-charming dancer, Johnny, more than just sparks are seen. The two embark on a journey filled with lots of dancing and love, and is complete with intimate and warm kisses that will leave you swooning.
Moonlight
In this intense story of a young South American boy, navigating his way through life of drugs and crime and coming to terms with his sexuality, here's a kiss that you shouldn't miss.
A Cinderella Story
A personal favourite, this coming-of-age, high-school drama, a modern version of Cinderella was all the rage in the 2000s. Starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, the kiss in the rain is one that we all still want…
Pretty Woman
This 1990s rom-com with Vivian Ward (played by Julia Roberts) and Edward Gere (played by Richard Gere) was a path-breaking movie of its time with an end that has nothing against your run-of-the-mill fairy-tale ending. The two-part ways, knowing that their lives and circumstances would never be in sync, and yet, Edward drives down to Vivian’s house, climbs up the fire escape, and wins her back with the kiss of a lifetime.
