The past few years have seen hairdressing in India evolve into an art form. To celebrate the evolution of the art and business of hairdressing in India, L’Oréal Professionnel Paris — one of the premier professional hair brands in the world, created The Indian Hairdressing Awards (IHA), an exclusive platform that recognises the creative talent of hairdressers and the business of hairdressing in India. As a brand, L’Oréal Professionnel Paris strives to support, champion, and elevate talent in the Indian hair industry. The company has instituted the Indian Hairdressing Awards to handpick the best of hairdressing talent across categories.

As they return for their 4th edition, this year brings some exciting changes for the Indian Hairdressing Awards 2021. And to add an element of freshness, this year’s awards theme is centred around French Balayage, one of the hottest hair colour trends that have taken the world by storm RN. Intrigued? Read on to learn more.

What Exactly is the French Balayage Hair Colour Technique?

French Balayage is L’Oréal Professional Paris’s signature hair colour service that entails a professional 2-step technique, combining perfectly blended lightening with a nourishing gloss to leave hair with an incredible shine. The lightened pieces of hair are artfully distributed by a pro colourist to sculpt the face and jawline, bringing out your best features. The technique uses contrasting and non-stripy blonde shades to add depth and definition to the hair. A French Balayage can be soft & luminous, glam & sophisticated, or extreme & bold, but it is always perfectly blended, natural-looking and personalised to your needs. It is a technique best left to professionals as it requires a certain level of skill to do it correctly.

For this year’s Indian Hairdressing Awards, the hairdressers had to create the perfect French Balayage look on their models provided to them on the spot. Now that’s a true test of their skills - a real-time consultation with the model and executing a French Balayage look that would best suit her skin tone and face shape!

The Indian Hairdressing Awards have been divided into two main categories: Creative and Business. The Creative Awards have three sub-categories: The Style & Color Trophy, The Young Colorist Award and The People’s Choice Award. This year, IHA received over 17500 entries from which the top 26 participated in a final tech round in Mumbai on the 22nd of Feb and were judged by an illustrious jury panel.
