Moringa is the latest superfood that’s creating a buzz in the beauty sphere. Having curried favour with nutritionists for its numerous health benefits, it is now being used in several beauty products and DIY masks and packs for its amazing skin and hair benefits.
“Moringa oleifera, a medicinal plant rightly known as a miracle tree has been used for centuries for its health benefits and skin revitalizing properties,” says Ritika Jayaswal, Founder & CEO, Nourish Mantra, an Ayurvedic skin care brand. It contains a variety of proteins, vitamins, and minerals. “It is highly preferable for its nutritious leafy-greens and mineral-rich green fruit pods,” she adds.
Moringa is also known as drumstick and is widely used in Indian food.

1. Helps in reducing visible signs of ageing
Moringa in powder or oil form is beneficial for slowing down signs of ageing. It is packed with anti-oxidants and prevents skin tissue damage which further turn into wrinkles. “Moringa has vitamin C that helps repair the damaged skin cells, boosts cellular growth and helps prevent your skin from sagging,” explains Ritika.
2. Soothes chapped lips
Moringa has great moisturising properties which is good for the skin as well as for your lips. A lot of lip care products have moringa as a key ingredient in them as it helps in keeping them soft and smooth.
3. Helps in treating dark spots and acnes
As moringa has great antibacterial properties it helps in preventing acne and breakouts especially if you have an oily skin. It is used as an ingredient in skin clearing products that reduce blemishes and dark spots. “Apart from applying of moringa, the powder can be consumed orally as it helps in purifying the blood thus reducing acne and pimples,” suggests Ritika
4. Shrinks pores
Moringa helps in reducing open pores since it boosts collagen production. It tightens the skin reducing the pores.

It keeps all types of skin hydrated. “Moringa oil is 40 % monosaturated fatty acids with 70 % of that being oleic acid, which makes it a great skin barrier that seals in the hydration and protects skin from harsh pollutants in the air,” adds Ritika.
