He was blessed with the looks of a Greek God, and still is without a doubt. One of the sexiest men in India, unfortunately wasn't blessed with the communication skills, that he has today. Since the age of 6, the actor stammered and had to undergo several painful speech therapy sessions, to better his speech. With sheer persistence and dedication, he overcame his disability, before he went on to become one of the biggest sensation in the industry.
2. Abhishek Bacchan
It was only after the critically acclaimed film Taare Zameen Par, which talked about childhood dyslexia and cited his inspiring case, it was known that Abhishek has not only suffered this tormenting disability, but has successfully overcome it as well. Inspiring, isn't it?
3. Deepika Padukone
The star has gone on record and openly talked about how she was suffering from depression for a long time.
"I thought it was stress, so I tried to distract myself by focusing on work, and surrounding myself with people, which helped for a while. But the nagging feeling didn't go away. My breath was shallow, I suffered from lack of concentration and I broke down often."
What's amazing is, that not only did she publicly confess her illness, she is really trying to bring about awareness about the taboo that depression has become, and has opened centers to help people who are battling with the same.
4. Sudha Chandran
Her inspiring story is proof that nothing can dampen your spirit if you are passionate and unwilling to be defeated. A highly talented dancer, Sudha, who the country knows for her famous character "Ramola" in a popular daily soap (we spent most of our childhood bearing the brunt of it!) lost her leg to a disastrous bus accident, followed by hospitalisation and ensuing negligence. She went on to become an inspiration for the country when she mastered classical dancing, despite being an amputee.
5. Manisha Koirala
Not only did this established actress suffer from clinical depression, she is also a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 42 years. She boldly posted snaps of her treatment chemotherapy, and would strive to work even during them! She has vowed to help others who fought the same battle, and is a phenomenal inspiration!
6. Rana Daggubati
In a video that recently went viral, the world got acquainted with the breaking news that Rana Daggubati, a critically acclaimed actor, famous for his role in the Baahubali series, is actually blind in one eye! Everyone was shocked, which turned into admiration for the immense courage he had showcased in not letting his impaired vision be any deterrent in carving out a successful path for himself as an actor!
7. Ileana D'Cruz
She took the country by storm when she debuted in Bollywood, in the big box-office hit, Barfi with her gorgeous body and killer looks. In an interview with a leading tabloid, Ileana D'cruz admitted to having suffered from Body Dysmorphic Disorder, anxiety and depression. It was extremely tormenting, but consistent help and support from her close ones, the actor overcame the hard times.
We absolutely admire the courage these celebrities have shown in battling their disabilities. More power to them for speaking up on their struggles and inspiring the fans in more than a million ways.
