Yami Gautam's Wedding Outfit Has a Sweet Connection to Her Mother and Grandmother

A few days ago, actor Yami Gautam married award-winning director and writer Aditya Dhar (of URI fame). The ceremony itself was discreet and intimate, attended by the couple's immediate family. In the special photographs that we received, we see Yami transformed into a joyful, blushing bride, wearing a traditional red bridal sari and gold jewellery. It's not just the vibrant colours and intricate craftsmanship of that actor's wedding day outfit that makes it special. There is a history to each item, a heartwarming tale that weaves a cherished bond between three generations of her family. Her mother, her grandmother, her sister and Yami herself. Cosmo India shares the exclusive story of actor Yami Gautam's special wedding look.

Let's begin with the bridal outfit, shall we? The actor wore a vintage silk sari in a shade of bright maroon-red. This sari belongs to Yami's mother and dates back 33 years. Delicate gold embellishment and a floral-motif blouse add to its traditional beauty. Over Yami's hair rests a carefully draped dupatta sent by her maternal grandmother, its folds cascading down her back and gently enveloping her shoulders. This auspicious red dupatta was sent to her as a symbol of love and maternal blessings, as Yami's grandmother was unable to be present at the ceremony itself.

Heirloom gold jewellery completes the actor's bridal look. Yami's gorgeous gold choker and striking maang tikka are offset by a traditional Himachali Nath (nose ring) in the Pahaadi style of jewellery. This nose ring too, is a gift from her grandmother. Encircling her wrists are traditional kalire decorated with cowries and coconut.

In true pandemic wedding fashion, Yami opted to do her own makeup, and she kept it simple, enhancing her natural beauty to the fullest. A complimentary shade of red lipstick, kohl-rimmed eyes and a subtle sweep of blush created a glowing bridal look. Her hair was styled by Yami's sister Surilie Gautam, who lovingly teased each strand into place.

"Yami truly made the prettiest bride," shared a close friend of the actors. "It (the wedding) was everything that Yami wished for, simple, intimate and radiating pure love. She always dreamt of having a very intimate wedding ceremony and it seems like that is exactly what she manifested. Due to the ongoing pandemic in the country, the couple decided to opt for a low-key wedding with only their respective families present on their special day."
