Paris Hilton recreates her iconic 21st birthday party chainmail dress

It takes one helluva dress to implant itself so firmly in the pop culture collective subconsciousness. But if there's one dress since the millennium that has, it has to be Paris Hilton's *iconic* silver chainmail dress that she wore to her 21st birthday party.

If you're anything like us on the Cosmo Fashion Team, you'll no doubt remember it like it was yesterday. In the midst of her reality TV venture2006 to be specificThe Simple Life star celebrated the occasion in a jaw-dropping sparkly mini dress constructed entirely out of a silver chainmail mesh fabric and featuring halterneck straps, a plunging cowl neckline and asymmetric hem. An equally bedazzled choker, sparkly butterfly clips and a pink Tinker Bell handbag completed the look. Peak Y2K.

Well, Hilton has only gone and recreated the look. Though in an admittedly more modern and grown-up, but just as stylish, version.

Taking to Instagram to share a look behind the scenes at the music video for her and Steve Aoki's new single 'Lighter Without You', Hilton could be seen sat in a pink velvet chair wearing a Rabanne silver chainmail dress.

This updated 'fit featured a boat neck with draped cap sleeves. But despite its more modest top half, the mini skirt was just as daring as the original with two huge slits starting at each of Hilton's hips. The DJ added chainmail fingerless gloves in a futuristic nod, while silver court shoes and XL tinted sunglasses provided the finishing touches.

If you were in any doubt about just how major Hilton's OG dress was (and is), none other than Kendall Jenner wore the exact same dress to her own 21st party. And more recently, Hilton roped Kim Kardashian, her long-time friend and one-time employee, into joining her in the music video for her song 'Best Friend's Ass' with each of them wearing takes on the look.

Does it get more iconic than looking to past you for style inspo? We don't think so.
