Bold, edgy, and fierce—are some of the many words we can use to define Deepika Padukone's look for the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. As she strode down the red carpet on Day 1, in a dramatic black and white Peter Dundas gown, she understandably had people swooning over her!
But what did it take to look like a dream on the carpet? The BTS. While her glamorous looks—namely a floral Erdem dress, a neon green tulle gown by designer Giambattista Valli, and a white Peter Dundas gown with a dramatic black bow—can be attributed to her stylist Shaleena Nathani, beautician Anil Chinnappa, and fitness trainer Yasmin Karachiwala, was that glow only skin deep?
Oh, no it wasn't.
Shweta Shah—owner, founder, and CEO of EatFit247—spills the beans on all that went into curating the perfect diet for the A-lister.
She revealed that some people have a natural tendency for stomach acids, heat, and digestive disorders. This is usually the fallout of a fast-paced lifestyle with erratic schedules, irregular meals, and heavy reliance on quick fixes. The solution was to strike a balance between the three primary energies in the body– wind, fire, and Earth. "Since Deepika has a tendency to heat (a heavy fire element), days before her flight to Cannes I put her on a cooling diet with plenty of detox agents," says Shweta.
The first order of business involved whipping up a pacifying decoction made from fennel seeds, rose petals, and fresh coriander. "An alkaline diet including a good deal of ash gourd juice and a single grain (each meal comprising of only one grain; either rice or wheat) helps stem the natural heat generated by the body. Opt for a light dinner–stir fried veggies, soup, and salads– to prevent heat build-up during sleep," she adds. Pumpkin, bottle gourd, and ash gourd were frequent fliers in the actress’s diet, peppered with gut cooling foods like cucumber, mint, celery, and coriander to help flush out the toxins.
Shweta claims that the disciplined actor followed the structured diet plan to the tee; even keeping a sack of pumpkin and sunflower seeds–both detox agents–by her side to munch on. "Detoxification and flushing is important for people like Deepika, to maintain the suppleness and glow of skin, along with superior quality of her hair," she informs.
Portion control, regular naps, paced workouts, and limited tweaks in her favourite cuisine–South Indian–is what keeps the actor going. “I replaced the polished kolam rice with the kolam sonamussorie unpolished variety. Another important component of Deepika’s diet was kokam sherbet and infused water. Consumed between meals, these drinks helped keep her hydrated and refreshed. Besides, a lemon and black pepper decoction post lunch helped neutralise a heavily alkaline diet, which was necessary to balance her fire element," she adds.
