It's finally happening. A new age Bollywood is here, complete with female centric films a new censor board judge and now for the first time, an actress is getting payed more then her male co-stars for a Bollywood film.
Deepika Padukone has reversed the wage gap with Padmavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film in which Deepika will be starring in the title role along with co-stars, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.
The actress is rumoured to being payed a whopping 13 crores for her role as opposed to her co-stars who are said to be drawing in about 10 crores each.
According to sources, "There are a lot of speculations about the pay structure of Padmavati. However, Sanjay Sir was clear that the film belongs to Deepika. The film is mounted on its female protagonist Deepika Padukone with the title being a testimony of the actress' investment in the project.
Gender pay gap has been a hot topic of discussion in both Bollywood and Hollywood, with many actors speaking out openly against this unjust practice.
Padmavati is however, setting a new precedent in Indian cinema, and we for one , could not be more pleased.
