From their sizzling chemistry on screen in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, to their raging controversies continuing till years after their break-up, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan have always been a deeply embedded mystery in the chapter of Bollywood. The couple that was much-in-love once, does not even look at each other now, and are both happy in their own world.
But, amidst various controversies engulfing Aishwarya and Salman's respective link-ups, we never quite got to know what was it exactly, that made this couple call it quits, once and for all.
There have been many sources claiming time and again that Salman's uncontrollably violent behavior drew a wall between the two, which eventually split them up.
Aishwarya has reportedly admitted that Salman's abusive nature and violent activities in the likes of creating scenes at her workplace or outside her apartment, forced her to walk away for good.
It was sad enough that she was in a relationship with him in spite of her father's wishes, who highly disapproved of Salman and their growing intimacy, back then.
Salman once admitted, "Aishwarya did not like my behaviour towards them just as I would not appreciate anybody misbehaving with my father. Aishwarya's father is completely justified in complaining against me. I have nothing against him."
It was this lack of respect and basic behavioral etiquette, along with Salman's obsessive and possessive attitude towards her, which made Aishwarya Rai bounce out of the meaningless commitment.
The actress shared, "I stood by him enduring his alcoholic misbehavior in its worst phases and in turn I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical and emotional), infidelity and indignity. That is why like any other self-respecting woman I ended my relationship with him."
We are glad that after putting up with all that, she finally found her soulmate in Abhishek Bachchan, and ended up settling with him, despite their age gap and uncalled controversies surrounding it.
When it's about love, age is no bar. We couldn't agree more.
