During the pandemic, home beauty treatments went from one to another. For some, the transition was painful, but it also popularized the DIY face mask—one of the most satisfying (and practical) skincare options available.
Whether or not you have access to a spa or salon, a homemade face mask made from simple ingredients puts the self in self-care. Not only are you taking the time to apply glow-inducing goop to your face, but you also know where each ingredient came from your fridge or pantry, chosen by the person who knows your skin best: you. In the mood to experiment in the cosmetic kitchen? We've compiled a list of five DIY mask recipes for you to try at home.

Glowy green tea mask

The potential benefits: Redness and/or irritation are reduced, and moisture is increased.

Follow these steps:
Mix 1 tablespoon of matcha green tea, raw honey, and baking soda; add enough water to make a paste.
Apply to the face and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

Blemish fighting milk mask

Benefits include: reduced acne (anti-bacterial), exfoliation

Follow these steps:
To make a thin paste, combine two tablespoons of raw honey, two tablespoons of nutmeg, and two tablespoons of milk.
Apply to the face and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water. After that, apply a dermatologist-approved moisturizer.

Comforting chocolate mask

The potential benefits include increased moisture, exfoliation, and the smell of chocolate (yum!)

Follow these steps:
Use three tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa or cacao powder, one tablespoon of cream, two tablespoons of raw honey, and one-fourth tablespoon of milk, and stir to form a paste
Apply to the face, then rinse with warm water after 10-15 minutes (or until dry).

Hydrating avocado mask

Benefits include reduced redness and/or irritation, increased moisture, and exfoliation.

Follow these steps:
Half of ripe avocado (mashed), one teaspoon of raw honey, and a teaspoon of plain full-fat yoghurt
Apply to the face and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.


Soothing Aloe-Honey Mask

The potential benefits: Redness and/or irritation are reduced, and moisture is increased.

To make a paste, combine 1 tablespoon pure aloe vera gel and 1 tablespoon raw honey.
Apply evenly to face and leave on for 20-30 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
