How to Keep Your Sneakers Bright and Clean

Stuck at home with nothing to do comes with its pros. Now you have more time than ever to attend to things you didn’t have time for earlier. For instance, the neglected pair of sneakers. As it is only one wear can dull the new-shoe shine of your sneakers and running around in them for errands, hitting the gym and the run in the outdoors could pretty much make them look like dirty tramps.

Well, considering you pay a bomb to buy some sneakers, they are an investment worth taking care of. Here are ways in which you can keep your sneakers looking squeaky clean without damaging the material or its functionality. Remember to choose a cleaning technique depending on the material of your sneakers.

Canvas sneakers

These sneaker get soiled easily. The best way to clean them is to make a paste out of equal parts of baking soda and warm water. Dip a toothbrush into the paste and rub the dirty spots on the canvas till completely clean. Leave the remnant of the paste on the shoes till dry and then wipe away the hardened paste with a damp cloth. However, unlike other sneakers, canvas shoes are the most sturdy and can withstand a tumble in the washing machine. Choose a delicate cycle, cold water and mild detergent when washing canvas shoes in washing machine.

Enmeshed sneakers

Your running shoes usually come fitted with breathable nylon mesh. However, the netting catches the dirt when you run in the outdoors. Do not put shoes in the washing machine as some foam are sensitive to water and high temperatures. A run in the washing machine will affect the structure of the foam and its ability to provide cushioning to your feet.
An effective way to clean nylon mesh is to use a dry brush to remove the dirt. For stubborn spots take equal parts of baking soda and vinegar and let it sit on the spot for 15 minutes and rub the area with a wet cloth.
