Modern dating is not for the faint of heart. It’s become far more complicated than one could have imagined. If you’ve been on dating apps recently, you’ll notice that there are typically three types of people: a) those who are still heartbroken from a past relationship, b) those who think they’re too cool to commit, and c) those who have no idea what they want. All three are major turn-offs for most women, which is partly the reason why dating has become so challenging (and exhausting).
But that doesn’t mean you won’t find someone. You most definitely will; you just need to look hard enough and be clear about what you want. The universe often aligns things in your favour when you’re focused and determined. However, the real question now is, once you find someone, how do you know if there’s potential for a future together? That’s where making a checklist can come in handy. Here, we’ve listed some subtle red flags and traits that you should be aware of.
They only text you after 11 p.m.
Has a problem with 'feminism'
Having differing opinions with someone you’re seeing is quite understandable. However, when it comes to feminism, aligning your ideals is crucial. The world needs more advocates for gender equality, and a person’s views on feminism often reflect their broader values and principles. You’ll want to be with someone who respects everyone. If they express discomfort with the term ‘feminist’ or dismiss the importance of gender equality, it’s a significant red flag. Consider whether their views align with your own values, and if not, it might be wise to reassess the relationship.
They don't handle jokes well
Some people find it difficult to handle jokes well. They may pull your leg and indulge in banter wherein they playfully make fun of you, and be comfortable with that idea. However, the moment tables turn, they become aggressive and defensive. This shows they don't like the taste of their own medicine and may indicate deeper issues with their temperament or communication style.
Insists on only hanging out at your place or theirs
Hesitates to introduce you to their friends
This red flag is often underestimated. When you’re getting to know someone, it’s important to meet their friends because the people they associate with often reflect their values and outlook on life. Understanding each other’s social circles gives insight into different aspects of each other’s lives. If your partner is hesitant or unwilling to introduce you to their friends, it could be a sign of deeper issues worth considering.
