We might fight with them, hate them to our very core, or even see them as rivals, but let’s admit it we can’t live without our siblings. Even though they might not see eye-to-eye all the time, siblings share a powerful, unbreakable bond that can’t be matched. This World Siblings Day, we at Cosmopolitan India dug through our watchlist to find web series and TV shows that accurately portray the sometimes-sour sometimes-sweet relationship between siblings.
So, free up your schedule, call up your sibling, and binge away!
Monica and Ross from Friends
Monica and Ross are one of the OG on-screen siblings who share a bond that’s so relatable—they bicker and quarrel and yet always have each other’s backs. Most of us will find their relationship familiar, especially in that one episode where Monica tells Ross that she used to hate him when they were younger after he started spending too much time at her place. Who hasn’t detested their sibling as a kid before, only growing closer in adulthood?
Alexis and David from Schitt’s Creek
Alexis and David can be counted on for some of television’s most iconic brother-sister moments (“Ew, David!” is etched in our memories). While they start off as snotty siblings who can’t stand each other, they open up to each other over the seasons and by the series finale, share an unbreakable bond. Throughout the show, they argue but are still there for each other when needed, like when Alexis gives David a pep talk during his driver’s test. We’re here for all the cute moments!
Fleabag and Claire from Fleabag
Not many shows manage to capture the complex relationship between two sisters, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge does it perfectly in Amazon Prime's original series Fleabag, which she wrote, produced, and starred in. Fleabag and Claire are polar opposites and have a tumultuous relationship, yet they go to great lengths to do anything for each other in their way. We think it is one of the most accurate portrayals of the joys and struggles of sisterhood!
Haley, Alex, and Luke from Modern Family
Modern Family served us with some of the best sibling relationships in TV history—be it the bond between Claire Dunphy and her brother Mitchell or the three Dunphy kids. While they constantly make fun of each other (especially Haley and Alex!), they are always there when it matters the most. Over the seasons, you can see their characters mature as they grow up and become closer to each other.
Will and Jonathan Byers from Stranger Things
Stranger Things gave us many things—a great sci-fi storyline, a breakout cast, and memorable villains (Vecna, anyone?), but one of our favourite takeaways from the popular show is the bond between Will and Jonathan Byers. Right from the first season, they are very close and protective of each other, with Jonathan always looking out for Will. Real-life sibling relationships can be much the same, with the elder one feeling responsible toward the younger.
