Beanie blues? Shun the static hat hair this winter

Picture this: It's a cold January morning, you drag yourself out of bed, brush your hair, and open your closet to find your favourite winter outfit, topped off with a cute beanie and Voila! You are all ready to take on the world. Fast forward to an hour later when it's time to de-beanie and what do you find? Your hair decided to defy gravity with a static detour making your look go from winter chic to meh. How we hate that, don’t we?

But this sweater season, we have some tips to help you indulge in the irresistible allure of winter fashion without worrying about the dreaded static hat hair.

Hydrate your hair

Dry hair and static are BFFs. So next time when you wear a winter cap, consider using a nourishing shampoo and conditioner and do NOT forget the leave-in treatment. These leave-in conditioners and sprays help in combatting static in the hair by retaining moisture and acting as barriers to prevent hair from drying out completely.

Say goodbye to heat styling

Well, don’t we all love the winter sun? So this time, try making winter sunlight your new best friend and allow your hair to dry naturally as much as possible. Excessive heat styling can strip your hair of its natural moisture, making it prone to static and frizz. If you have to style your hair anyway for occasions and parties you, can opt for a good heat protectant spray with anti-static qualities. But try to minimise the use of blow dryers and straighteners as much as possible.

Use static hair sheets

Using anti-static drying sheets can neutralise electrical charges on your hair and turn your frizz bombs into beautiful, flowing waves. Adding a little hairspray mist can also give further protection and work wonders for your static hair.

Material matters

Many materials like synthetic fibres and wool are known to generate static electricity. So to avoid the charge, you can consider choosing softer and more hair-friendly materials like silk, cotton or cashmere. While silk feels soft and flowy on the scalp, cotton allows the scalp to breathe, hence preventing the static build-up. Cashmere, on the other hand, can be your go-to material for a more luxurious look. This natural fibre has insulating powers to keep you warm while keeping your hair hydrated at the same time.

H2O to the rescue

Static hair hates water. All you need to do is spray some water on your hairbrush or lightly run your damp fingers through the static strands. This trick will instantly provide moisture to your hair and the best part is that it is the easiest way to keep static hair at bay even while you're on the go.
