5 Ways to Upgrade Your Work-From-Home Messy Bun

Messy buns and top knots are to hairstyling world the same as a cup of steaming hot coffee with your breakfast - comforting, effortless and does what it needs to do.

When your daily commute has whittled down to trips to the fridge and your social life is all about catching up on video calls, its only natural to declare the top knot as the unofficial hairstyle of lockdown. So, if you want to (without much of an effort...) do something cute with your hairstyle for a Zoom meeting or just to Facetime bae, here's help.

Check out these 5 easy-peasy ways to quickly upgrade your messy bun without much of a fuss:

Easy braided bun

This is one is best for the mid-length to long hair types. All you need is to gather your hair in a ponytail and braid it. Then, twist the braid like how you style your messy bun, secure with an elastic and you're done!

Top knot with bangs (Without cutting your hair!)

The lockdown period has probably seen the highest number of people chopping their hair to try out bangs. But, if you are not sure about giving yourself a DIY snipping sesh but still want to rock fringes, here's what you need to do - Tie your hair in a super-high ponytail. Now, take the front section and bring it over your forehead to make it look like a fringe. Use bobby pins to adjust the length of your bangs and secure them. Twist the rest of the hair into a top knot as per usual, lightly pulling out sections of the bun for a loose, messy vibe.

Half up bun

Call this Instagram model-approved hairstyle as getting the best of both worlds. Just section the hair on the crown of your head and twist it into a bun while leaving the rest of the hair down. Gently pull out a couple of strands for a face-framing effect and you're done!

Space buns/Odango buns/Double bantu knots

This hairdo has a lot of names...maybe because it's so easy and always looks super cute, especially for a video call with your girl gang or even a potential bae. Get started by sectioning your hair into two by taking a middle parting. Now twist both sides into a cute bun and secure it with elastics or bobby pins. e End or you can go a step further by gently loosening the bun for a messy, chic hairstyle.

A very profesh braided bun

This is a slightly avant-garde version of the simple braided bun. Begin by parting your hair in the middle and braiding each side until the crown of your head. Now, gather the rest of the hair into a messy bun and you're done!
