Designer Rajesh Pratap Singh has been named the chief creative director of premium design label Satya Paul. Founded in 1985 by Satvinder Paul, the brand is credited for shaping the concept of modern ethnic wear. Print innovations by the brand, made its sarees, especially “cocktail sarees” hugely popular among women. Over the years, Satya Paul has reinvented its design palette without straying from its brand DNA and aesthetics.

In his new role Rajesh will oversee artistic direction for all Satya Paul collections for women and men and present his first in Fall/Winter 2020-21. Known for his minimal aesthetics and global appeal, Rajesh Pratap’s unique signature style blends Indian craftsmanship with international silhouettes. It will be interesting to see the innovations and the changes that Rajesh brings to Satya Paul’s design vocabulary. Speaking about his new role, he told Cosmo over email, “My objective is to make it one of the finest brands, if not the finest brand to come out of India in that sector. I want to take this homegrown brand to another level with keen focus on the manufacturing quality of the product, going back to the roots and bring about the purity of thought that Mr. Paul wove this brand with.”

About his plans for the brand, he said: “Before moving ahead, it becomes important to de-clutter, clean up the visual language and upgrade it. Changing techniques, designs, movement in voice and making it relevant for the times are a few processes we are working towards, slowly and gradually but with innate focus. I want to get both the aesthetic and quality higher for all the products, not just the saris though they will always remain at the core of Satya Paul.” Rajesh has dropped his first collection of men’s shirts that narrate the story of a man navigating through an Urban Jungle.
