THIS is the Secret to Getting an Upgrade on the Plane, Apparently

You know up until recently, I was starting to think this whole 'maybe I'll get an upgrade' malarkey when it comes to flights is just a big myth. I've tried everything. Getting there early, dressing up a bit swankier, travelling on my own. And does it work? Does it buggery.

So when I recently took a trip on British Airways' new flight route from London Heathrow to San Jose, I decided to corner the flight attendants and find out how it actually works. What the secret really is. Because there's only so much economy a girl can handle when she can't even afford economy plus.

And I actually found out a dime of information. I mean, I'm yet to try it out, but I'm actually pretty hopeful, because it totally makes sense. All you do, apparently, to give you a better chance of being upgraded is to avoid pre-selecting a seat when you check in online prior to your flight.

If you've already set yourself up with a seat, you're sorted in the airline's eyes. But if you're still potentially floating anywhere around the plane, then there's at least a glimmer of hope that they could find you an extra-comfy space in, say, business class.

Obviously there's no guarantees with that, because it totally depends on how much excess food and drink they've got, plus how many vacant seats, of course. But it's worth a shot, no?

*Books next holiday, economy, crosses fingers*

Good luck, folks. And let me know if it works for any of you.
