Miley Cyrus turned up to the 2024 Grammy Awards wearing a super-sheer gold netted dress (we are playing fast and loose with the word ‘dress’ here) from Maison Margiela. If this outfit wasn’t enough to make our heads turn, her performance of ‘Flowers’—the song for which she bagged the ‘Record of the Year’ award—definitely was. Cyrus created an iconic and globally viral moment when she changed the lyrics to ‘I just won my first Grammy’ in her song to celebrate her big win and it had all our hearts!
Since her Hannah Montana days, Cyrus has been known to step outside her comfort zone and shake things up; she is the definition of an ‘ever-evolving’ artist. Whether you’ve seen her action-packed performances or just glanced through her IG feed, she has a zesty and contagious energy that makes you want to groove with her. This liveliness, along with her very, very impressive set of abs and toned arms, which she displayed through her Grammy outfits, makes us wonder what her fitness routine looks like.
From yoga and pilates to just leading an active lifestyle, here is everything we found out about the pop star's workout and diet. In case you want to tear a page out of the Miley Cyrus fitness book, we spoke to Radhika Karle, master pilates trainer, celebrity fitness trainer, nutritionist, and co-author of Pure & Healthy, who shared some useful tips.
Ashtanga Yoga
Cyrus has sworn by yoga for years now. Her go-to style of yoga is Ashtanga, which focuses on strength and cardiovascular fitness through breathing exercises. Karle says, “Ashtanga yoga has a Vinyasa flow aspect, which means you are moving from one asana to the next, without stopping. The asanas are also more challenging where both, upper and lower body strength are required. The focus on strength allows for toning to happen in Ashtanga Yoga.”
This explains Cyrus’s incredible flexibility and high energy levels!
Cardio
Some time ago, Cyrus shared a video of herself running on a treadmill while singing ‘Rebel Girl’ by Bikini Kill. Her toned abs and arms were on display as she hit all the notes perfectly and matched the beats of the song to her steps.
Pilates
Reportedly, Cyrus began practising Pilates back in 2013 and it has become a mainstay in her fitness regime ever since. She got so into it that she added a Pilates studio to her house, which we can safely say, is a big part of her jaw-dropping abs!
Karle explains, “Pilates is a form of movement that focuses on core strength followed by abdominal strengthening. With the core being strong, then abdominal strengthening can happen which not only includes the abdominal muscles that give you six-pack abs, but also the oblique abdominals which give you a slender waistline.”
Always on the move
Cyrus’s lifestyle is anything but sedentary. When she is not practising yoga or Pilates, she is hiking, swimming, doing wall sits during vocal rehab, walking her seven dogs (which is nothing short of a workout), or dancing up a storm on stage. She is even working out in her ‘Flowers’ music video.
Cyrus proves that fitness is not about hitting the gym regularly and watching what you eat, it’s about staying active and giving your muscles new challenges to overcome. Karle says these incidental workouts also help to strengthen and tone your body. She said, “Movement is medicine so any form of daily movement will keep the muscles working which keeps the joints in the body healthy.”
