Triptii Dimri shares three mantras that helped her Bollywood career

Triptii Dimri is undeniably Bollywood's newest ‘It Girl’ right now. While she received critical acclaim for her roles in Qala and Bulbbul, her work in more recent films like Animal and Bad Newz has brought her to the forefront of mainstream cinema.

She's been working with actors such as Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, and this month will be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. Her style is also appreciated as she strutted down the runway as a showstopper for Shantanu and Nikhil at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI earlier this year.

With well-deserved opportunities coming her way, the kind people put on their vision boards, Dimri reveals her mantras for success and her illustrious journey.

Avoid conformity

It’s easy to fall into a groove once you’ve found your forte as an actor, or in any other profession, for that matter. We’re all guilty of it… but not Dimri. Starting out with big dramas like Qala and Bulbbul, Dimri was asked about her sudden switch to a movie like Animal. She said, "I don’t like to be too comfortable when it comes to acting. However, I think it is essential to branch out in order to master your craft. I look for different characters because that is where I feel the growth is." It doesn't hurt to widen your horizons and develop skills through a variety of experiences.

No judgement

Dimri's performance in Animal was met with a largely polarising response from Indian audiences. When asked whether she would do things differently if given the chance, Dimri responded, “I would play Zoya exactly the way I did the first time. As human beings we all have different shades, we all have a good side, a bad one, and probably an ugly one. As actors, we get to dive into each of these emotions that we all possess but don’t necessarily tap into in our daily lives.”

The essence of her take is that every character is just a piece of fiction that needs to be played, regardless of whether or not you agree with it. She goes on to assert the importance of approaching every new character from a neutral standpoint, instead of a place of judgement. The best performances come from giving each persona some grace and understanding. Post-recovering from the aftermath of this reaction, she strongly believes that she has cracked the code on carving a path for herself within the Bollywood fraternity.

Work-life balance

In this day and age, achieving a good work-life balance is just as much a myth as getting a Birkin as your first Hermès purchase. In times as such, Dimri mentioned, it is imperative to not lose sight of what’s really important- personal space, family, and of course, a vacation among the mountains. Dimri also asserts that to bring a change in the kind of characters you portray, you have to address the growth you feel from within, first.  Another school of thought she shared, is to be as true to oneself as humanly possible. With the limelight, comes an incessant need to act a certain way, even without the cameras all up in your face. However, audiences have changed with the times, and are craving authenticity from their idols more than ever before. The only way to find a real connection with the viewers, Dimri adds, is by being real yourself.
