This year, with the resurgence of everything from bows to headbands to red tights, we all collectively started looking like Blair Waldorf 2.0. Yep, the preppy late 2000s, early 2010s look seems to have had a resurgence - but here comes your daily reminder to keep everything else about that era back where it belongs: ten years ago.
Every week it seems like a celebrity comes out to share about the difficulties of this era - whether battling with the paparazzi like Mischa Barton or being villainised in the press like Britney Spears.
Now, Leighton Meester - who played Blair Waldorf herself from 2007 to 2012 in the OG Gossip Girl, has shared her own struggles from the period. In a new interview with Interview Magazine to promote her new film EXmas, Leighton opened up in conversation with husband Adam Brody (aka The O.C.'s Seth Cohen).
In the interview, Adam asked Leighton if she'd ever had a "crazy fan experience" - which opened the door to discussing a "creepy" encounter from her past.
After Leighton struggled to name any outlandish fan interactions, Adam jumped in to fill the gaps, saying; "I remember you woke up in your trailer on Gossip Girl and someone was standing over you."
The former Gossip Girl star then clarified that this was not a fan interaction but, rather, an incident with a photographer. "Oh yeah. That was creepy," she said. "That wasn’t a fan, it was paparazzi. But the line is very fine."
She then elaborated on the emotional impact of the incident, years later. "I haven’t thought about that in a long time and I think I probably just chose not to think about it," she said.
Our thoughts are with Leighton - here's hoping that this type of behaviour stays well and truly in the past.
