Diljit Dosanjh delivers a power-packed performance on ‘The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon’

One of the most popular artists in the country right now, Diljit Dosanjh has taken over our Instagram feeds (and our hearts) after his grand debut on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. The episode, which aired on Monday, June 17, saw the artist devour the audience with his incredible performance.

As informed by Jimmy Fallon himself, the Punjabi artist is currently busy with his Dil-Luminati tour, which cements Dosanjh as a prime representation of South-Asian performers in the West. Not too long ago, Dosanjh made history, becoming the first-ever Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella, setting the stage ablaze with his popular South-Asian hits. Whenever asked about where he resides, Diljit Dosanjh responds with a simple: within the hearts of my people. After this debut, he is sure to have built a home in a couple thousand more.

The Punjabi-fication of Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon has joked and bantered with some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson among others. In recently surfacing BTS clips, Dosanjh can be seen teaching Fallon some everyday Punjabi catchphrases such as “Punjabi aa gaye oye, (the Punjabis are here)” and “Sat Sri Akal (a way of greeting in Punjabi),” we’re all here for it! We especially loved seeing Fallon reiterate the Punjabi pop star’s loud and emphasised “Oye!”.

An on-screen, unpaid, blockbuster concert

In clips shared by Dosanjh and Fallon, the former can be seen performing a medley of his songs ‘Born To Shine’ and ‘G.O.A.T.’. In true Dosanjh fashion, he danced away with some classic Bhangra moves that set the stage on fire, nudging the audience to take to the floor and give him a standing ovation. In the clip, Fallon also congratulated the Dosanjh for the crowd-pulling performance, calling him the “biggest Punjabi artist on the planet.”

Dosanjh-powered South-Asian representation

Diljit Dosanjh is a man of his culture, and his performance was proof. The artist ended his Tonight Show performance with ‘Main hoon Punjab’  (I am Punjab) from his recent film Amar Singh Chamkila. His appearance on the show marks a significant milestone for Punjabi music, where he enforces representation for the country, garnering love and recognition for his culture on an international stage.

Another memorable fashion moment

“They say Punjabis can’t do fashion. But I said I will do it and show you,” Dosanjh said during his concert in Mumbai, leaving the crowds speechless. And what he says, he has done.

Beyond his successful singing and acting career, Diljit Dosanjh has made significant strides in fashion, delivering one standout look after another. The most significant aspect of his style is how he combines what’s “in” with what he loves. Donning an Indo-western ensemble, Dosanjh wore an ethnic Sikh turban and white kurta set, along with a swanky diamond watch, Jordans, and a leather vest. Right from the simple black kurta, turban, and tamba that he wore for his performance at Coachella last year to the white counterpart on The Tonight Show, Dosanjh has become a fashion icon, a sight for sore, bored, and tired eyes of fashion connoisseurs.

Claiming to have never hired a stylist for his wardrobe, the singer illustrates a deep range as far as his outfit choices are concerned. This time, just like all the others, he did not disappoint. The big gold hoops with the authentic white turban were a personal favourite.

It’s common knowledge that Diljit Dosanjh is always on the grind—amidst the commencement of his Dil-Luminati tour, the Punjabi rockstar is set to release the third part of his biggest Punjabi box-office hit, Jatt and Juliet 3, starring Neeru Bajwa. His Instagram is almost like a YouTube vlog page, and he is always making surprise appearances at places we wouldn’t imagine him to be (we all remember the Ed Sheeran concert in Mumbai, right?). With all of this and more on his plate, we can’t wait to hear what the singer has in the books for the future—hopefully, it includes some more Bollywood hits!
