With their soon to be held nuptials in Mumbai and fans all over the world waiting with bated breath to get a glimpse of the pre-wedding functions of #ranbiralia, this is surely slated to be *THE* Bollywood wedding of 2022. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are reportedly keeping it a low-key affair with only family and close friends in attendance, followed by a rumoured African honeymoon after their alleged reception on April 17 at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai.

Alia’s Candid Confessions

This love story is a unique tale of how the Universe works in mysterious ways, as Alia has admitted that she first had a crush on Ranbir when she had auditioned for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black as a mere 11-year-old tween in the past. Then years later, during a promotional event for Student of The Year, Alia Bhatt confessed that Ranbir Kapoor would always remain her biggest crush. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor met on the sets of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, their first acting project together and that’s when they reportedly fell in love. The rumours about them dating solidified when the couple made an appearance together at Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's wedding reception on May 9, 2018 in Mumbai and needless to say, they created looked spectacular and radiated happiness.

In a chat with NDTV in February 2022, the Gully Boy and Raazi actor cemented their relationship by honesty saying, "I'm already married to Ranbir Kapoor in my head. And, I think I've been married to him in my head for a long time.” She said she believes that everything happens for a reason in life and that she was confident that whenever she does eventually get married to Ranbir, things will flow in the right direction organically.

Later the same month, in an exclusive interview with India Today, Alia further explained that she was wary about being asked about her marriage as she felt it was nobody else’s business and reiterated that marriage according to her is a state of mind and that she was already there with Ranbir internally, enjoying a peaceful and blissful existence, and in no rush to approach the altar.

Ranbir’s Evolution

Ranbir Kapoor has had some very public break-ups in the past, and in 2012, post ending things with Deepika Padukone (who years later spoke about his infidelity), the Barfi actor was labelled as a Casanova and having commitment issues. But he has clarified in the past that he is not a commitment-phobe as he is perceived to be and that he has no qualms about settling down with the woman who is right for him eventually.

The Sanju actor has spoken about how there are no ground rules in love and that you simply cannot contain an emotion like love within any boundaries or parameters. He has maintained that according to him being in a relationship was itself a sign of commitment and that one does not have to be necessarily married to a person to be committed to them. He also shared that a marriage is something that he would naturally commit to and not enter just because he was getting older in life.

While Alia stayed quiet about their relationship initially, Ranbir was the one to open up and confirm their romance in an interview with GQ magazine in 2018, but said, “It’s really new right now…” and admitted that he was a more balanced person and valued relationships more presently. Plus, he went on to say, “I can appreciate hurt and what it does to a person much more than I could a couple years back.”

In 2020, Ranbir in an interview with film critic Rajeev Masand, straight-forwardly stated that had the pandemic not occurred, he would have been already married to Alia by then, and yes, we are glad that the couple is taking their next step of togetherness now and here’s wishing them nothing but the best.
