If you workout everyday you would know how difficult it can be too keep your glorious mane shining and healthy. While breaking into a sweat might feel good and do wonders to your mood, your hair needn’t necessarily feel that way. So we got in touch with Vaishakhi Haria, celebrity hair stylist and director at Splash The Salon and Mantastic Barbers and also the artistic ambassador at L’Oréal Professionnel to tell us how to take care of our hair and protect it from damage, breakage and grease.
Keep a hair detangler brush handy in your gym bag if you plan on a shower post workout. Be sure to detangle from the ends moving up to the roots. A detangler helps in removing the knots caused during the workout and prevents breakage when you shampoo your hair post workout.
Before you grab your dry shampoo directly out of the workout, it is advised to first use your towel to dry out the excess sweat. Using dry shampoo too often can also lead to a flaky scalp. The best option would be to wash the hair with a mild shampoo to clear the scalp. Keep your dry shampoo for emergency use only.
The best way to protect the hair while working out is to tie them up. Tie your hair in a braid or a ponytail while working out to prevent damage. However, it is important to note that the ponytail must not be too tightly gripped. The sweat caused during the workout weakens the hair and the hair might get pulled and snip. Use good satin srunchies to avoid breakage.
Sweaty scalp + oily hair don’t go together. Do not workout with oil on your hair and scalp. This combination only worsens the hair damage problem and much be completely avoided.
Do not expose your hair to direct sunlight as it may make your hair frizzy and rip it off moisture. If you have to work out under the sun do not forget to use a UV protection spray on your hair.
