In such unpredictable times, is stress or despondency getting the best of you? Well, you may need to calm down with the help of fragrant fumes the natural way. We spoke to Dr Blossom Kochhar about her pick of essential oils to use in your diffuser or mixed with your massage oil to help you heal:
 
•      Jasmine  
 
Jasmine essential oil is popular floral aromatic oil, which provides a sudden whiff of freshness and peaceful thoughts. It helps in easing anxiety, depression and nervous chills. Jasmine is a strong aphrodisiac and is extremely helpful in building confidence and enhancing skin elasticity.

How to use
Massage: Jasmine essential oil can be used for massages. Mix 2-3 drops of the essential oil into a carrier oil and blend it well.
Diffuser: Use 4-5 drops of Jasmine essential oil in a diffuser bowl filled with three-quarters of water. Essential oils should never be burnt directly as the chemical structure can get changed with an incinerator.
Baths: Add 4-5 drops of Jasmine essential oil to your bathtub or 3-4 drops to your bucket and swish the water gently to mix the oil well. If you have dry skin, add a tablespoon of vegetable oil along with the essential oil.
 
 
•    Lavender
 
Also known as “Universal Oil”, the Lavender essential oil has multiple qualities, which soothes nerves, eases pains and fights palpitation. It regulates high blood pressure and counteracts stress and relieves fatigue and depression which the new age brides tend to get easily. It helps heals burns, insect bites, helps falling hair, eczema and acne.

How to use
Massage: Lavender essential oil can be used for massages. Mix 2-3 drops of the essential oil into a carrier oil and blend it well.

Orange essential oil is produced mainly in Spain, Israel, the United States and India. This helps in refreshing our mood and infusing happiness. This essential oil eases depression, insomnia and anxiety. It helps in curing digestive disorders and prevents travel sickness. The benefits include Reinforcement of natural immunity, helpful in the treatment of fever and eases constipation. It also prevents wrinkles and dermatitis.

With its beautiful fragrance, one can use Rose essential oil as a perfume. It relieves premenstrual tension, eases depression and mental fatigue, tones up the entire system, has aphrodisiac properties and cures eczema, thread veins and acne

Sandalwood essential oil is produced in India, Indonesia and China. It is famous for its use on ceremonial occasions. The sandalwood has amazing natural qualities, which helps in moisturizing and purifying the skin. Sandalwood also acts as a strong antiseptic. It calms depression, nervous tension, redness and inflammation. Sandalwood essential oil can be used as a perfume or as a deodorizer.
