The truth is, only thinking about or visualising our goals and dreams is not enough to achieve them. But manifestations go a long way in helping us navigate and and envision the life we want to lead. I had always been a sceptic when it came to believing in the law of attraction and manifestations. After several conversations with my best friend, who was totally taken in by the law of attraction, I decided to try it out.

I was 21 when I made a vision board for the first time. I had just finished my final examination and almost immediately after, went down the Pinterest rabbit hole. I thought about all the things I wanted to learn and do while I was studying—sign up for scuba diving course, learn photography, travel, be patient, watch more sunsets, read at least 52 books, learn creative writing, watch more movies, and smile a whole lot more. Barring a few goals that are in the process of being achieved, it was a pretty incredible year. What I can say for sure is, envisioning the reality made it easier to work towards it.

For all those visual thinkers out there, a vision board really might not be such a bad idea. They are a great tool to have a detailed vision of your goals and motivate you to work towards achieving them, every single day. Vision boards can be used to envision a long-term plan or short-term goals. Either way, they will further your belief in yourself to achieve all that you set out to.

If you’re wondering where to begin, what to include, and how to go about making a vision board, read on for a step-by-step guide.

Take some time out and think about what you really want

Figuring out your goals and dreams can be a confusing journey. So, we recommend to prioritise your goals and break it down to the very last detail. Become clear about what you want to manifest through the vision—a career goal, a new skill, an experience, or just a better version of yourself. Is there someone you really look up to? Who do you aspire to be like? It could be fictional character or a real time leader and change maker. Jot it all down.

Do your research
Your next step is to look up online—what kind of a vision board do you want to create? Look for images and other visual representations of your goals. When I was making my vision board, I remember an image of a camera that stayed with me—it was the one I wanted to use to highlight my goal of learning photography. Choose images that define you, your goals, dreams, and visualisations. You can even collect images of your favourite quotes, movie dialogues, or song lyrics that will keep you going. Mine was: “Cages or Wings, which do you prefer? Fear or love baby, don’t say the answer, actions speak louder than words,” from the song 'Louder than Words' from the film Tick, Tick, Boom

Gather all the materials

Now that you know exactly what you want to manifest, it’s time to start collecting, compiling, and gathering all your information, images, magazine cut-outs, stickers, glitter, post cards, old photos and anything else you may want to add to your vision board. Creating a vision board is also a creative process that allows you to explore different ways of manifesting your reality. You could use a cork board, white card paper, a magnetic board, or even a white board to create the vision board. You will also need scissors, some glue, and other decorative material to make your vision board inspiring.

Get creative
You have everything together. All you need to do now is arrange your material in super jazzy and attractive manner—remember you want to manifest exactly what you put in your vision board. You can also write down your affirmations of self-love and confidence and pin it up on the board. When I made my vision board, I remember using all the glitter stickers that I hadn’t used since I was a child. It was my time to make everything sparkle and shine!

See it every. Single. Day.

Just like daily affirmations, you need to be seeing your vision board every single day. There’s little benefit in making a vision board, but not seeing it every day, to manifest all those dreams and goals that you’ve pinned up on it. Put it up beside your bedside table or work desk—the key is to affirm that reality consistently. The vision board will become your daily reminder that you deserve all the magic in the world and more! Also, don’t be afraid to make changes and update your vision board as you grow through.
