Why Goa during the monsoon is a magical paradise

“The monsoons in Goa feel like a mid-year reset. The first rains and light summer-end showers make me feel like I’m born again.” This is what Nasya Pereira, multidisciplinary artist, music producer, and founder and curator of Vintage Goa Memories, had to say when I asked her about Goa during the monsoons. The popular Instagram influencer has lived in Goa all her life and dedicated her Instagram page to the rustic charm of the state. She fondly recollects memories as she delves into the wonder Goa turns into during the monsoons. “Goa’s hills and fields turn lush green, bringing a feeling of calm and tranquillity. Fireflies can be seen after the sun sets, like magic over the fields and among the trees, and pretty rainbows are always a sight to watch out for,” Pereira added.

While everyone flocks to Goa in summer to enjoy the beachy landscapes, a true naturalist would know to sidestep the crowded summer landscape and visit during the rainy season instead. That’s when you can truly immerse yourself in the charm of Goa sans the tourist crowds. The beach activities are a no-go this time of the year, but it’s still a lovely place for those who enjoy nature trails and trekking.

For meals, I recommend classics like the Goan ros omelette, vindaloo, and a Goan fish thali,” he adds. Pereira talks about the popularity of waterfalls in Goa and reminds visitors to be cautious about them. “Goa’s waterfalls and quarries have turned into tourist attractions over the past few years, but one must remember to respect the spaces of the locals around the area. It is also very important to stay safe. Some of these quarries are pretty hyped up, so do exercise caution and visit responsibly.” She also encourages people to explore some of Goa’s off-beat sites as well in order to experience Goa in all its authenticity during this season. “Monsoons present an entirely different scenario compared to the parties and events in summer. This is a great time to visit the churches, temples, and other historic places to understand more about Goa’s rich history and culture and get a glimpse of the ‘real Goa’ that isn’t overshadowed by blaring music and tourists,” she shares. Lastly, Pereira talks about the revered Goan cuisine and how it has been influenced by different cultures throughout history, having exquisite flavour. “opt for Goan cuisine! Look for authentic Goan spots and don’t forget to try out some of our cashew feni,” she concludes.
