We tried Dua Lipa's viral drink, and here’s what we think

The singer sure knows what she's doing!

Let’s face it—the internet is a bizarre place. And yet somehow, we’ve managed to find some of the weirdest albeit appetising food combinations here. Whether it’s vanilla ice cream with olive oil and salt, or hot chocolate with cheese, these pairings are intriguing, to say the least. And having tried them all, I have to say I love every single one of them! If tasting the weirdest food combinations were an Olympic sport, trust me, I’d bag a gold.

Come to think of it, two ingredients that probably belong on different ends of the kitchen and can never be a part of the same recipe (or so we think) come together to create an unexpected punch of flavours. It sounds like an enemies-to-lovers plot of the food world, and I am here for it. So, naturally, when I watched Dua Lipa share her viral soda with pickle and jalapeño juice, I knew I had to give it a shot. If Gordon Ramsay could give it a shot, then why not me?

Here's what you'll need

Get a can of Diet Coke, some ice, pickle juice, a splash of jalapeño juice, and jalapeño sauce. And let’s not forget an aesthetic glass—because if you’re going to drink something this bizarre, you might as well do it the right way. Pour the soda over the ice. Next, add some pickle juice, pickles, and a splash of jalapeño juice, along with some jalapeño sauce. Give it a stir, and dig in!

The taste test

As you stir the drink, it'll start to bubble up, almost as if the drink itself is warning you not to drink it. But the aroma of the pickle juice is tempting enough. The flavours immediately burst on your tongue, striking the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, and spicy, which makes this drink a total hit.

What we love how refreshing the drink is and how easy it is to make—you’ll probably find the ingredients at a nearby store. Moreover, this drink can easily be remade into a cocktail by adding your favourite spirit. It will surely become the go-to drink at house parties, and people won’t be able to get enough of it!

While we love Dua Lipa's drink, we already have our own version—a possibly better one—masala soda. It has some of the most flavourful ingredients such as salt, cumin powder, mint, lemon, black pepper, and the iconic jal jeera powder—making it an instant hit. So while Lipa’s drink is worth a try, just think of the revolution the internet will undergo when they discover India’s masala soda. Well, we are manifesting that for everyone!
