With a shared passion for Electronic Dance Music and Indian folk music, Lost Stories has carved a niche for itself in the world of music. In a conversation with Cosmopolitan India, the duo—composed of Prayag Mehta and Rishab Joshi, opens up about their journey and their music.

Cosmopolitan India (CI): Tell us about your journey as musicians and what inspired you to come together as a band.

Lost Stories (LS): We initiated our music venture as Lost Stories around 2008, securing our first record deal in 2009. Our shared passion for Electronic Dance Music and folk music brought us together, with the goal of putting India on the global map.

CI: That one moment that truly brings you joy.

LS: Reflecting on our journey and realising how we've evolved from our family and friends being our sole supporters to gaining a vast international fan base brings us immense joy.

CI: What is your process of blending energies and collaborating to create something fresh in an already saturated music scene?

LS: Our diverse musical upbringings play a crucial role. We leverage our individual musical conditioning, allowing it to manifest naturally in our work—melding the melodies and rhythms ingrained in our subconscious with modern electronica. This approach extends to our collaborations.

CI: Share a moment when you thought that you’d finally made it.

LS: We view “making it” as retirement. We value the process and journey over an ultimate goal. While we’ve experienced iconic moments like our debut at Tomorrowland (an annual music festival in Belgium), considering it as “making it” would have hindered our subsequent five-year run at the festival.

CI: Collectively as a band, what are you most grateful for?

LS: Our greatest gratitude in 2023 was finding clarity amid chaos.

In the four-part 'Strike A Chord' series, Indian musicians open up about the changing music scene, their journey, inspiration, and the glimmer moments they’ve experienced.
