How can you turn a house into a home? By putting thought into how you want each corner to look, carefully selecting the furniture and investing in decor and art pieces that speak to your individuality. Every year, Asian Paints’ ColourNext Colour and Material Intelligence Forecast helps us personalise our homes even further by unveiling the colour, wallpaper and four decor trends of the year. If you’re looking to spruce up your space, we suggest you start taking notes!
This year, Asian Paints has announced Terra as the colour of the year. This earthy hue has been chosen for its primal tones that bring about a strong sense of solace, grounding and belonging even in the face of chaos. Terra’s warm and comforting nature allows this palette to turn our homes into a sanctuary of relaxation and stability. You can effortlessly leave all your worries at the door and let your guard down within your Terra-hued walls. And if this isn’t the definition of a home, what is?
For over two decades, the Asian Paints’ ColourNext forecast has mapped consumer behaviour, consumption patterns, socio-cultural sentiments and lifestyle shifts. This data combined with several competitions, interviews, workshops and the science of colour psychology culminates into the colour forecast of the year. And so, you can be sure that Terra will add that extra oomph to your space and help it be a truly well-curated home with a rich and soothing feel.
Speaking about ColourNext 2024, Mr. Amit Syngle, Managing Director and CEO, of Asian Paints Ltd. commented, “Each carefully curated trend not only tells stories but also serves to inspire and influence the industry towards ideas based on socio-economic changes and the design evolution around us. In 2024, with Terra as our Colour of the Year, we delve even deeper into authenticity and innovation. It’s more than just a shade, it's a journey back to our roots, to our essence. This year's colour and trend palette is, at its core, a celebration of individuality and introspection. ColourNext 2024 continues its legacy, inspiring creativity and setting the tone for a vibrant and dynamic design journey."
Along with the colour of the year, Asian Paints also announced four decor trends that are all set to take over the interior design space in 2024. These trends are— Soil, Into the Deep, Indo- Futurism and Goblin Mode. Each of these forecast stories aim to spark creativity and spell a narrative that connects with individuals differently. They also unveiled the wallpaper of the year—Samsara. This intense composure of textural terrain-like layered lines is made from natural pigments obtained from mud, tea leaves and various other natural dyes.
Additionally, Asian Paints also announced the launch of the Paris-Calcutta collection in collaboration with renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Unapologetically maximalist, this collection is a tale of cities that draws its inspiration from Sabya’s eternal muse—Calcutta. It features over 30 wallpapers and over 120 fabrics that range from large-scale damasks to reinterpreted kilims and paisleys that embody Sabya’s unique take on the souks and exotic marketplaces of North Africa and Persia.
Sharing more insights about the collection Sabyasachi said, “Paris-Calcutta is a tale of two cities, both exuberant in spirit and abundant with art, thought, charm and glamour. One is the city that has consumed my imagination, the other is my home and eternal muse. With hand-painted motifs created by The Sabyasachi Art Foundation, this collection of wallpapers and fabrics co-created with Asian Paints brings together the sophisticated artistry and cultural decadence of these two cities."
