The festive season is a celebratory time brimming with special moments with our loved ones. With our calendars being filled as we try to fit in the Diwali parties and gatherings, it’s possible to feel drained after it is all over. From early mornings to late nights, from rituals to celebrations, there's barely any time for self-care and rest. While it sounds all fun, it can also take a toll on your energy levels. So how do you recharge yourself after a fun-packed festive weekend? Two leading therapists talk about the many strategies and practices that’ll help you fight post-fervour fatigue.

Set healthy boundaries and prioritise

Ideally, you should look at your schedule, and decide on which invitations you will accept. Spend your time and energy wisely, prioritising people who are more important to you. You may still get tired and people may still want to catch up with you after the Diwali weekend, but if you're exhausted, just say no. Let them know you'd like to recharge yourself and have some downtime before participating in social activities again. On the other hand, we know spending time with some people in our lives recharges us. In that case, go ahead and be with your human charger!

Celebrate yourself

Celebrate not just the occasion, but yourself as well. Use this time to relax and unwind all alone. It could be something that you really wanted to do for a long time, a quiet evening watching a movie, going for a walk or drive. Doing so gives you something to engage in a hobby and recharge. If you’re going to spend time at home, make a quiet spot where you can go when you feel overwhelmed.

Re-establish your routine

The festivities can send your routine for a toss. The thing about having a routine is that it makes you feel at ease. Take some time to rest and then get back to the mundane routine of your life. It will help you feel the security of familiarity again!

Use grounding techniques

Engage in mindfulness techniques, such as meditation or deep breathing, to help ground yourself during busy times. Even taking a few deep breaths before entering a social situation can help calm your thoughts and reduce any social anxiety. Doing so will help you stay grounded and calm amidst the festivities.

Mindful eating

The festive season is all about indulging! After back-to-back parties and delicious dishes and beverages, it's time to finally detox. Go easy on sugar and fried food. Eat mindfully and make healthier choices, which will help you get rid of the sluggishness.
