After the easy-breezy, binge-able, erratic, and just as easily forgettable first part, the good news is that the second half of Emily in Paris redeems itself. Season 4 brings some serious past issues to the surface, as characters struggle to keep both their relationships and professional lives afloat. While Netflix has officially renewed Emily in Paris for a fifth season, the show that we are waiting for is a spin-off featuring none other than Sylvie Grateu and her fabulous “Parisian Adventures”.
A rich backstory just waiting to be explored
Season 4 offers just a teeny-tiny glimpse into how powerful and dynamic Sylvie’s character is. She is probably the only character that has stayed consistent and has gotten better season after season. Her effortless style, sharp wit, and commanding presence make Sylvie one of the most iconic characters on the show. Played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, she is the epitome of French chic and sophistication, making her the ultimate showstopper of the series. From her thrilling past as a young, ambitious Parisian navigating the world of fashion to becoming the fierce powerful woman who runs the show at Savoir and then her own agency—there’s so much ground to explore. The spin-off could delve into her climbing up the corporate ladder, showcasing her struggles and even the dynamic she shared with her mother, offering us an interesting take into her world.
The complexity of her relationships
One of the most intriguing aspects of Sylvie’s character is her unapologetic approach to love and life. Her relationships with longtime client Antoine Lambert and her husband Laurent G reveal her avant-garde views on romance, free from conventional norms. As she tells Emily in a candid conversation, “I don’t want a hundred per cent of anyone, and I don’t want anyone to have a hundred per cent of me.” Watching Sylvie navigate these complex relationships while maintaining her independence and personal stance would definitely make for a compelling watch.
A business class in leadership
Let’s face it: Sylvie is the real boss in Emily in Paris season after season. The one character who constantly saves the day and, more often than not, saves Emily from her own messes—whether it's stepping in to fix a PR catastrophe or smoothing over Emily’s social faux pas, Sylvie’s role as the “bad cop” makes her the true hero of the series. But what sets her apart is her honesty. She doesn’t sugarcoat anything, and that’s exactly what makes her so refreshing. From the moment she meets Emily, she’s brutally honest about her expectations and isn’t afraid to call her out when she falls short. As Emily’s no-nonsense boss, Sylvie has proven time and again that she knows how to handle any crisis.
Living the Parisian life right
Well, Emily in Paris does transport us to the city of romance, but it’s through the lens of an American. A Sylvie spin-off series would definitely give us a more edgier version of Paris–its fashion, food, and culture—all through the eyes of a true Parisian. We can’t help but wonder how chic Sylvie’s version of Paris would be, and we are certain that it would make for great TV.
A spin-off would definitely allow us to dive deeper into Sylvie Grateu's backstory, unravelling her rich, complicated life. There is so much to explore in her world. A spin -off would not only keep the fans on the edge of their seats but also offer a fresh, dynamic perspective on Parisian life, fashion and power from the eyes of Paris' coolest native.
