Love is in the air with Valentine's Week slowly creeping upon us. And it's stirring up a mix of emotions among Gen Z. In the week before Valentine's Day, each day is given a special title—Rose Day, Propose Day, Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day, and finally, Valentine's Day. A lot of couples choose to celebrate each and every one of these days, and the hype for each one on the internet is real! While some swoon over the romantic gestures and are eager to dive headfirst into the festivities, others can't help but cringe at the sight of it all.

Let's take a peek into what Gen Z has to say about this love-infused week!

They lowkey don't mind it

Public displays of affection? Not exactly their cup of tea. Teddy bears, red roses, and cheesy pickup lines? They'd rather pass. To them, it all feels a bit contrived and suffocating.

“I think Valentine's Day week is sweet as long as you keep it lowkey,” says Shrangha, a Gen Z woman currently immersed in media studies in Pune.

It should be genuine and not due to pressure

For many, witnessing over-the-top displays of love and affection during this week feels less like genuine love and more like a desperate attempt to conform. “The whole week can feel overwhelming, with this pressure to celebrate every single day,” adds Varnika, a student from Hyderabad. At the end of the day, what matters most is expressing genuine love and appreciation, without feeling coerced. Asking someone out of the blue to be your Valentine? Total cringe alert! It's safe to say, respect for personal boundaries should always come first.

They appreciate the sentiment

It's not all gloom and doom! Gen Z might not be sold on the traditional Valentine's Day hype, but they do appreciate the sentiment behind it. Some prefer to keep things lowkey and relaxed by embracing unconventional yet authentic ways of celebrating love with friends or partners. And let's not forget, if you're already in a relationship, Valentine's Day is a golden opportunity to shower some extra affection without all the pressure. “It's cute for some people too...I guess it depends on your definition of cheesy,” points out Ritika, a student from Chandigarh.

They love love

But wait, there's more! For many, Valentine's Day isn't just about romantic love—it's a chance to celebrate with friends and family, or even indulge in some self-love. So why let couples have all the fun? Gather your besties for a cosy night in, complete with movies, games, and a potluck dinner. After all, who says Valentine's Day can't be about celebrating friendship too?

At the end of the day, whether you're a fan of Valentine's Day or not, it's all about creating joyful memories and doing what makes you happy. So, embrace the love, ditch the pressure, and let the good times roll!
