6 Things to Keep in Mind While Exercising in Summer

Summer is a good time to get in shape and go the extra bit when it comes to working out. But the heat can make you tired easily and sap your energy. In order to work out safely and make the most of your exercise you need to keep a few things in mind. Paraj Primlani, Founder of ParaFit, an online collaborative fitness network, shares few effective tips that you need to follow to work out efficiently during summers.

Drink water the whole day

This is highly essential. You need to drink at 3-4 liters of water in a day. "Also make sure you are not just having water pre, post or during workout, but the whole day to keep your body naturally cool," advises Paraj. As you can get dehydrated easily during summers and can get cramps while working out if your body is dehydrated

Do not exercise during noon

Avoid the time period of 10am-5pm for working out and try to workout early morning or in the evening. Exercising during the day can be the worst thing that you can do to your body. Paraj advises against it as this can affect your performance and can also lead to cramps

Avoid high protein before workout

According to Paraj a high protein meal will increase your body temperature and this can reduce your workout performance.

Do not drink coffee before workout

Coffee is A great pre-workout drink but coffee in summers can lead to dehydration so it’s better that you avoid coffee before workout. "Try to have a cold smoothie instead, so that It can balance the heat in your body during the workout," adds Paraj.

Invest in comfortable clothing

You need to wear breathable, lightweight, moisture-wicking, or mesh materials while working out to keep your body cool. Also do not wear anything that’s too fitted, opt for loose clothes.

Don’t forget your sunscreen

If you are working out on your terrace or balcony or garden, don’t forget to slather some sunscreen with SPF 30 or above. More than sunburn, a good sunscreen will protect you from the harmful effects of UV rays. Choose a sunscreen with a sports formula that's made to withstand sweat during an intensive workout.
