6 Places to Head to for a Snowy Christmas

Bingeing on holiday movies, where the story usually plays out amidst snow laden towns and people wrapped in layers of woollens, could make you feel like travelling to a place where you can catch the snowflakes and chill by fireside. In case, you haven’t done your booking yet, here are a few places that are sure to take your breath away.

Auli

Auli is a popular Ski destination. Even if skiing isn’t something you fancy, you could go to this place that receives heavy snowfall in the months of December and January. Surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, Auli has a lot to offer to visitors. You could go on treks, day hikes, jungle walks, night trails, bird watching, photography trips, village tours, and much more.

Manali

Manali has featured in many Bollywood movies as an apt backdrop for romantic scenes. Well, can you blame the filmmakers when Manali in winter with snow-clad peaks  and icy winds calls for a few cuddles. You could put up at one of the properties here and try your hand at some winter sports or go further till Rohtang Pass for a stunning drive in  winter wonderland. 

Darjeeling

This hill station in West Bengal retains a quaint, old-world charm and has many relics of its colonial past. The town, is known for its majestic views of the Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain peak. Darjeeling used to be a summer resort for the British Raj. You could take a ride on the toy-train here, it’s one-of-a-kind experience. However, it doesn't snow as often in Darjeeling but winter just makes this place look and feel even more beautiful.  

Shoghi

If you want to spend some time in a quiet place, far from the maddening crowd, then Shoghi is the place to be. The place receives good snow fall and in winter it dons a white cloak and looks picturesque. There are several good hiking trails in Shoghi and you can spot a wide variety of migratory birds here. 

Theog

If Shimla doesn’t interest you anymore, you can go beyond Kufri and Fagu to reach the less explored town of Theog. You can catch stunning views of the Churdhar peak and unwind in the lap of nature without having to face any touristy crowd.

Gulmarg

A popular ski destination, Gulmarg is the place for a white Christmas as Gulmarg get covered in snow in the month of December and temperature goes as low as -8 degree celsius. Do not miss out on the cable car ride if you want to get a panoramic view of this scenic town.
