25 years after the first episode aired, might we add.

My mother was in her late twenties when she first watched the show in 1998. Years later, at the age of eighteen (in 2017), I was introduced to it. Talk about relevance! Today marks the 25th anniversary of the day of the premier of the pilot episode of Sex and the City. It’s been twenty-five years of sexual innuendos, sl***y dressing (proudly), and feminism at its very best. Several members of the cast took to social media to commemorate the day. Kristen Davis (Charlotte) wrote, “It is impossible to believe it has been 25 years! I consider myself the luckiest person in the world to be a part of this story that connects so many of us together. It has and continues to be a JOY! Thank you to all of you who have come along for the ride. We love you”, and Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie Bradshaw) who wrote, “It’s our silver anniversary but the memories will always be gold. X, SJ.”

The series which aired on television in the ‘90s, was based on writer Candace Bushnell’s column in a newspaper that went by the same name. With yee-high stilettos, cocktails at brunch, and designer dresses, the show takes us through the journeys of four NYC-based women who navigate their way through sex, relationships, and abhorrent stereotypes while seeking solace in their friendship. Sex and the City was a show that made women across ages and from every corner of the world feel heard. And it still does. What Carrie Bradshaw and her girls spoke about two decades ago, continues to be as relevant and important even today. So, here’s a look back at some of the most iconic dialogues that remain true even today.

“I’d like a cheeseburger, please, large fries, and a Cosmopolitan!”—Carrie Bradshaw

We will take that, too!

"I will never be the woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on it."—Carrie Bradshaw

If 2023 is not about owning who you are, we don’t know what is.

"No matter who broke your heart, or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never go through it without your friends.”—Carrie Bradshaw

You know the saying ‘sisters before misters’? Female friendships will forever be important and integral to every woman's growth—even Oprah says so.

"It's your body, your life. You do what's best for you."—Carrie Bradshaw

Couldn't have said it better ourselves.

“Sexy is what I try to get them to see me as after I win them over with my personality.”—Miranda Hobbes

You go girl! The 21st-century woman is hardly about going the extra mile to impress someone. It’s about 'this-is-me' attitude that comes with a side of ambition, desires, and feelings of being secured about oneself.

“For something called a fling, it looks like a lot of work.”—Charlotte York

The line is almost like a gentle reminder from your best friend, and you should listen to them.

“I will not be judged by you or society. I will wear whatever and blow whomever I want as long as I can breathe—and kneel.”—Samantha Jones

It’s all we want to say to that nosy neighbour and relentless relative.

“Men who are too good looking are never good in bed because they never had to be.”—Carrie Bradshaw

Yes, even today.

“You shouldn’t have to sacrifice who you are just because somebody else has a problem with it.”—Carrie Bradshaw

After years of being victims of sexism and living by societal norms, women today have evolved and demand more than what they have been told they require. They’re demanding a love that allows them to be as they are—no exceptions—and we’re all for it.
