When you think of David Schwimmer, your mind probably hops to Ross stuck in leather pants in a bathroom or getting a ridiculous self-tan. But the funny star took on a heavy, not-funny role as Robert Kardashian (yup, that Kardashian) in American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson. Schwimmer gave a *chef's kiss* performance, fully transforming himself into O.J.’s late defence attorney and almost made fans forget all about Ross...for a while.
Once you get past the terrible name, you’ll see how tremendous Courteney Cox is as Jules Cobb on Cougar Town. A newly divorced single mom who is trying to date (often younger men, hence the title of the show). Jules is effortlessly relatable, and is a smidge like Monica, but with a lot more wine.
Remember when the ageless Clueless star showed up as Mike, a love interest for Phoebe, and you actually fainted? No? Just me then. Anyway, while he’s certainly racked up a host more acting credits since his Friends stint, his most notable role has to be as the Marvel superhero Ant-Man, where he blends his comedic charm, with some impressive action moves.
Let’s try and forget the Joey spinoff for a minute, and be grateful that the former Dr. Drake Ramoray found a role he could truly own: playing himself. As a satirical and over-the-top version of Matt LeBlanc on HBO's Episodes, LeBlanc was nominated for Emmys and won a Golden Globe.
Trying to remember who Cole Sprouse played on Friends? Duh, he played Ross’s adorable son Ben! There may be some Gen Z kids who would argue that his turn on Suite Life of Zack & Cody was his best gig, but he’s transformed himself so completely as Jughead Jones on Riverdale, that it really shows off how much he’s grown in the past two decades IMHO.
Selleck was a mega-star from Magnum P.I. and Three Men and a Baby before he joined the cast of Friends as Monica’s more mature love interest Richard Burke. But he’s been playing the commanding Frank Reagan on the CBS drama Blue Bloods for so long, that it is hard to remember his funnier side.
It’s hard to ever top the magical weirdness that is Phoebe, but Kudrow’s performance as Valerie Cherish on the short-lived HBO comedy The Comeback came pretty close. Cherish was a former sitcom actress desperate to return to TV and the one-season show was such a cult fave that it got a second season nine years later.
Ribisi made a few appearances on Friends as Phoebe’s dim-witted but lovable brother Frank, but he showed off his acting range as the con artist criminal Marius on the Amazon series Sneaky Pete.
The erstwhile Chandler Bing keeps getting a diverse slate of starring gigs on shows like Mr. Sunshine, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and The Odd Couple. But his best post-Chandler gig to date has been in the recurring role of Mike Kresteva, a rival attorney on The Good Wife and the spinoff The Good Fight.
On Friends, he was Monica’s Ultimate Fighting-obsessed rich boyfriend Pete. Now, his best role is off-camera. The former Swingers star, directed, produced and starred as Happy in Iron Man. He also played a big part as an executive producer in a lot of the subsequent Marvel films, helping to shape the entire Avengers universe. And if that wasn’t enough, he also brought Baby Yoda to the world as the creator and executive producer of The Mandalorian.
Everyone’s been obsessed with Rachel Green since she stormed into Central Perk in a wedding dress. While Aniston’s been quite prolific in movies since Friends, and has kept the tabloids busy with their imaginations, her real win was returning to the small screen for her starring role in the Apple TV series The Morning Show. Her turn as morning news anchor Alex Levy, alongside Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, scored her an Emmy nod.
