At the FDCI India Couture Week 2019, designer Gaurav Gupta launched Gaurav Gupta Occasions Fine Jewellery to mark 15 years of his journey in the fashion industry.
Cosmo: Tell us about your fine jewellery line...
Gaurav Gupta: It’s an interpretation of my sartorial creations and couture language. Each diamond is cut according to our brand’s signature sculpting style, giving it the form and feeling of timeless art. The collection includes 50 special pieces—necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, and ear-cuffs.

C: Is this something you always wanted to do?
GG: I’d always see women wearing my creations, looking extremely beautiful, yet it would somehow seem incomplete to me. So, I finally took the plunge and designed this collection that complements my avant-garde outfits. It is for confident, fearless and strong women; for the modern Indian bride who enjoys the finer details in her jewellery in terms of cuts and design.
C: What's the inspiration behind Gaurav Gupta Occassions?
GG: I’ve drawn inspiration from my obsession with nature. The beauty behind the flight and freedom of birds, the lush and mysterious depths of forests, and the exhilaration behind the feeling of infinity and liberation. They truly capture my spirit and embody the distinct elements, in the three sub-collections Feather, Forest, and Infinity.

C: What's your favourite piece from the collection?
GG: The Liberation necklace from the Feather collection, which is designed in the shape of wings interwoven together. Each of the 8,000 pieces—a delicate combination of rose- and full-cut diamonds—was set under a microscope, and created over eight months. The highlight is that every feather is scooped from the back, to keep the necklace light on the wearer.
C: And how would you style these pieces?
GG: You can wear the statement pieces to a themed wedding or even an evening out with your friends. Some of our lightweight necklaces can be styled with poofy organza skirts paired with embroidered corsets. If you’re wearing a sari gown, the cuff earrings will add edge to it.
