America Ferrera shares an *amazing* throwback of Ugly Betty's 'chaotic' fashion looks

Can we all agree Betty was ahead of her time?

For many, America Ferrera was the unexpected heroine of Greta Gerwig's Barbie film. Margot Robbie might have been the protagonist, but it was Gloria (the character played by Ferrera) who triumphantly delivered one of the most memorable, poignant, and heartfelt speeches we've heard in recent years—namely, *that* monologue about the impossibility of being a woman in modern society, and everything it entails. It brings a tear to our eye just thinking of it now, tbh (you can read it here in full, btw, if you need a lil refresher).

But what some Gen Z-ers might not know, is that America has been changing the game on screen for a good few decades already. OG Noughties TV fans will be well acquainted with Ugly Betty, the hit ABC show that America fronted as the deeply unstylish Betty Suarez who lands a job at a top fashion magazine. If you haven't already seen it, Christmas is the perfect time to binge the whole four seasons on Disney Plus, trust us, you won't regret it.

And here to give you a little taster is America herself, who has just shared the most *amazing* throwback on Instagram of her time on the show—and all those chaotic outfits...

Styled by costume designer Patricia Field (of Sex & The City fame), we have to say that some of the looks from the show were surprisingly ahead of their time—and, in hindsight, not quite so "terrible" after all. We're talking clashing prints, socks 'n' sandals, bright colours and puff sleeves aplenty. It's giving Noughties-era Emily In Paris, in a way!

As America herself so aptly put it in the post's caption: "You have to be a master to do “bad” well! I think Betty was way ahead of her fashion, and I feel like she set some trends. Can I get a co-sign from you, fashion peeps?"

You've certainly got it from us, gal! But what do you all think—straight ugly, or genius?
