Emily in Paris might be centred around Emily in Paris (I mean, it's right there in the title), but the show isn't only about her. The stories of the supporting characters are also intriguing for viewers, whether it's Mindy's singing career or Sylvie's unconventional marriage. And with season 3, audiences are getting new characters to learn all about. One of them is Greek artist Sofia Sideris, who is played by actor Melia Kreiling.
According to Netflix's Tudum, "Sofia is a Greek artist who enters the Emily in Paris fold to unveil her latest show at Camille’s gallery. Sofia’s time in the City of Love takes an unexpected turn when she finds herself falling into a passionate affair."
Whether you've binged all of season 3 by now or are just getting started, get to know more about Melia's life and career, below.
Melia Kreiling is from Greece, just like her character.
Melia's character Sofia is Greek and so is she. A 2013 Paste magazine interview with the actor explains that her father is American and her mother is Greek, and she was raised in Athens.
"When your teacher says, ‘Oh, on Friday we’re going to take you to the Acropolis’ and the Acropolis happens to be The Acropolis, you’re in awe of these places, even if you are living next to them," Melia told the publication. "A lot of the times in daily life, you forget."
She's been in plenty of popular TV shows before.
Melia rose to fame with her role as Bianca in the series The Borgias in 2012. She went on to star in the shows Tyrant, Salvation, and Filthy Rich.
In November 2022, she began starring in the Amazon Prime Video series Mammals alongside James Corden, Sally Hawkins, and Colin Morgan.
She was in the MCU!
Melia isn't just known for her TV work—she's also been in movies, including a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 32-year-old was in Guardians of the Galaxy as Bereet.
In an interview on The Late Late Show in November, Kreiling shared that she cracked a tooth on the set of the movie and didn't want to tell anyone. "This was my first big experience on a big movie set, so I was very nervous," she explained. As a quick solution, she secured the tooth with chewing gum and carried on. "I didn’t want to make a big deal of out it," she said to the shock of fellow guest Will Arnett. 😱
She was a dancer before she became an actress.
In the Paste interview, Melia said she danced since childhood but after suffering an injury, she was encouraged to try acting instead.
"When I got injured with dance and it looked like I was not going to be able to keep doing it, my mom and my godfather and everybody just kind of grilled me for a few months while I was in physical therapy for my dance injuries," she explained. "They said, ‘Just try it. Just go to acting school for a year. Just try it.’ And I knew they were right. I knew this was what I was going to do."
She was excited to join Emily in Paris!
In an October Instagram post, Melia shared that she was joining the cast of Emily in Paris and teased a bit about her role.
She wrote, "Joining the incredible cast of @emilyinparis for some international sizzling AMOUR 💕 playing dress-up has never been this much fun before."
