There are plenty of positives, but also plenty of negatives about being in a relationship. Chief among the drawbacks, however, is having to share a bed. Every. Single. Night.
Whether it's putting up with your boyfriend's snoring, partner's late night tossing, or girlfriend's 25 different morning alarms, bedroom cohabitation can wreak serious havoc with your sleep schedule.
This - in particular the relationship crime of snoring - is what Lipstick On The Rim podcast hosts Molly Sims and Emese Gormley were discussing in a recent episode, when celebrity guest and rom-com queen Cameron Diaz (who's already done their annual re-watch of The Holiday?) offered a potentially ~controversial~ solution.
"We should normalise separate bedrooms," Cameron said. An intriguing premise, right? Albeit out of reach for those of us who live with a partner (at least partially) for cozzie livs reasons and the possibility of going halvers on rent and bills, we're still curious about how Cameron sees it working.
Well, she then went on to propose a sleeping arrangement that involves not only totally separate bedrooms but totally separate houses. "I would literally - I have my house, you have yours. We have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room. You go sleep in your room. I'm fine."
But don't worry, when it comes to ~intimate time~ she has a whole solution worked out: another, third, bedroom. "And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for, you know, our relations," she added.
Despite her interesting thoughts on the subject of co-sleeping with a partner, she clarified this is not the arrangement she follows with husband and Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden - but rather something she would often joke about before the relationship."By the way, I don't feel that way now because my husband is so wonderful. I said that before I got married."
As financially unviable as multiple houses or bedrooms is for the average couple, Cam raises an interesting point: do we really need to spend every night in a shared bed to prove we're in a healthy relationship? You decide!
