People lie about the strangest things in order to seem smarter or more culturally exposed. A recent survey conducted by a UK-based film company revealed a large number of people pretended to have watched certain critically acclaimed and popular films. Their motivations it seems were to fit in with a group or not to seem ignorant. Though it seems like a pretty random thing to lie about, social pressure can sometimes make us do odd things. When it comes to films, these are the top of the list...
2. Casablanca
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman's classic tale or war and love came in second on this list.
3. Taxi Driver
Everyone regards this as one of Scorsese's best works, but many are lying about actually having seen this 1970's film.
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey:
Stanley Kubrick's Sci-fi classic is also a movie many people pretend to have seen.
5.Reservoir Dogs
Stylish and edgy, around eight percent of the people who claim to have watched this film are actually lying.

This highly acclaimed 1984 music comedy is also on the most-fibbed about list.
7. Apocalypse Now
The highly acclaimed war film starring Marlon Brando was one that six percent of people also pretended to have watched.

Director Ridley Scott's futuristic Noir thriller also makes the list.
10. The Great Escape
This 1960's story of a jail break by a British Commonwealth prisoner is the tenth film most people lie about having watched.
