India as a country has tropical climate with both wet and dry seasons. What this means is that barring a few months, humidity is a big part of our life. Most people struggle with their makeup feeling too oily or simply not lasting long enough. Primers can fix this problem to a great extent. It will help fill in enlarged pores for a smoother finish, cut down on the extra shine and make your foundation last longer. We chatted up Bhavya Arora, celebrity makeup artist, who has worked for movies, ad films, print campaigns and web series and with celebrities such as Tapsee Pannu, Rasika Dugal, Chitrangada Singh, Shraddha Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte and more. She recommended the best ones out there Keeping in mind the weather as well as our undertones.
This is a clear primer that is actually a PRO product but works well on most skin types, especially if you have the problem of your face feeling sticky and sweaty post makeup. Since it’s a clear gel it works well with most undertones and it’s mattifying texture gives a smooth finish to your makeup foundation.
This is a water-gel formula, which is infused with Vitamins B, C and E that not only hydrate your skin but also gives your face a beautiful glow. I recommend it if your skin is on the dry side or you’re looking of an extra layer of hydration in winters. It’s become one of the staples on my makeup kit.
I recently used this primer for the first time and it’s a good budget but for people who are not looking to spend a lot on primers. It’s gives the skin an even consistency and does make your makeup last longer on hot days. The only thing is the formula is off-white/cream in colour so it’s best for light and medium skin tones.
This one is highly recommended for Indian skin, especially for outdoors because it comes loaded with SPF so you have an extra layer of protection from the sun.
This is one of the most effective products for Indian skin. It’s a mattifying product that gives good control over oil and is great for covering open pores.
This is a great primer for mature skin. It also has SPF 50, which is great for our climate. You can mix it with your moisturiser for that extra boost of hydration and the results are excellent.
7. Farsali Oils
For mature Indian skin, Bhavya recommends Farsali oils. They give a lot of hydration without being oily. They serve as a great base for makeup for our skin tones and go well with all kinds of undertone.
"Invest in a good primer because it’s not a product that you use a lot of. If you do decide to invest in one, make sure you buy a good brand that protects and nourishes your skin and makes your makeup look natural," advises Bhavya.
