Toy Story turns 20 this week. Yup; it's over the age of consent, can legally drink, AND is allowed to buy scratch cards without being hounded for ID.
All in all, this makes us feel old.
But just so we can all relive our childhoods, here's 13 things you might not have known about Toy Story. You know, so you can sort of feel like you're watching it all over again for the first time.
During the first drafts of the Disney classic, Woody was supposed to be a bit of a bully. Sarcastic and vindictive, it was his mean behaviour that was intended to be the trigger for the other toys in Andy's room to rise up in rebellion. Oh what a different movie this could've been.
Hence he originally would have looked like THIS, with a moveable jaw.
But it was decided that he just looked a bit too sneaky with those sinister heavy eyelids, down-turned mouth and long nose, and it didn't match up with his new-found happy-go-lucky character. So he was transformed (still keeping the pull-string, though).
But 'Lunar Larry' just doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
They demanded a complete rewrite of the tale despite the fact that filming had already started. But they just weren't fans of Woody's neggy vibes, which is where the rootin' tootin' cowboy we all know and love today emerged from.
When Harry Met Sally actor Billy Crystal was originally asked to voice the astronaut toy, but declined. After seeing the completed film, he maintained that turning it down was the biggest regret of his career. Which is why he was so keen to nab that part of Mike in Monsters Inc.
But was eventually snapped up by Tim Allen. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
Apparently, when he was a kid, he used to wonder whether his toys came alive when he left the room. Didn't we all, Tom, didn't we all.
The same date the movie was released. Who'dda thought it.
Instead of both eyes blinking simultaneously, they shut one at a time. WIZARDRY.
How do we know this when it wasn't ever mentioned in the first film? His mum comes up in the credits as 'Mrs. Davis'. There's a fun fact for you.
Because why wouldn't there be a reference to a pant-shittingly scary horror film in one of our favourite childhood animations?
We're glad they went back to the drawing board with that one.
Of COURSE it was. Haven't you seen how awesome it is?
