You Need to See This Barber Cutting Hair With Fire

Have you ever leaned over a candle and accidentally singed the tip of your hair? It's not the most pleasant scent, is it? Now, imagine paying someone to do that on all of your strands. It may sound too crazy to be true, but believe it: There's actually a barber in Italy who uses fire for his haircuts.

Franco Bompieri, owner of the Antica Barbiera Colla salon in Milan, uses a very old technique in which he finishes off his cuts with a candle. "In Italy, you did the job with a comb and scissors, then you'd get a candle and use it to burn the hair ends," Bompieri told Great Big Story. His reasoning: "[The hair] becomes bigger, the hair gets stronger and doesn't fall out anymore." We're not so sure this is actually the case considering hair falls out due to DHT, a chemical that "chokes" the follicle, but Bompieri's got seven decades of experience under his belt so his haircuts must have some quality to 'em — regardless of whether the flames do as he promises.

This also isn't the first time we've seen a stylist cut hair using fire. In 2015, Madrid hairdresser Alberto Olmedo made the news after a video of him giving haircuts with not just fire, but also swords went viral. Of course, as fun as these videos are to watch, we're not so sure we will be letting anyone near our heads with candles any time soon. Just sayin'.
